KMH Express, Inc. was established in 1998 by Kirk M. Hankinson. In 1996 Kirk M. Hankinson established KMH Freight Systems, Inc. which was created to transfer chemicals from railcar to tank truck in the Augusta, Georgia market.

In 1998, since the demand for more truck transport was increased, Kirk M. Hankinson established KMH Express, Inc. to provide chemical transportation services to the transfer station. In 2002, after the completion of extensions to the rail system in the Augusta, Ga. market, the railroad company was now able to provide rail to door services which reduced the demand for the transfer station. In 2002 KMH Freight Systems, Inc. ending operations and KMH Express, Inc. continued operations until 2003. In 2022, Kirk M. Hankinson reactivated KMH Express, Inc. to provided truck transportation services to the chemical, construction, and agricultural industries.
